Merry Christmas

Mercy woke up about 7, and the boys got up about half an hour later, which worked out perfectly. We all sat together on our bed and watched the Church's rendition of the birth of Jesus (which went over much better than trying to read Luke 2 with anxious kiddos) then went down to check out our stockings and open presents.

Matthew had taken each of the boys to the dollar store, and with their own money they purchased presents for each other. Hyrum was SO excited for his brother to open his gift, a bow & arrow set that turned out to be one of the day's most popular play things.

Mercy enjoyed her first Christmas, and the boys got her some very thoughtful gifts. Hyrum was very adamant that he get her a sippy cup and some bathtub ducks that quack. The ducks didn't quack, but they sorta squeak and he was so pleased to get them for her. The Wonder Woman book was from her Daddy. She also got a handmade blanket, some clothes, and a Disney train that ended up being the day's most popular toy.

Matthew got new running shoes, a digital interface for the temperature sensor he got for his birthday last year, and a bunch of edibles. I got some swiffer-like mopping equipment, a cute handmade skirt, a hand iron for quilting, and some sweater tights.

Abraham got some Batman pajamas that he was very excited about, along with some puzzles and blocks. Hyrum got Angry Bird pajamas, roller skates, and a pair of cap guns that broke within a couple hours. They also both got cell phones. I always thought a three year old having a cell phone was ridiculous, but after I got the smart phone for my birthday and we saw how much everyone enjoyed playing games on it, we recognized the phone's true potential. We got some cheap ones at Walmart on Black Friday and put some games and videos on them. Abraham's can't make phone calls at all, but Hyrum's has Skype on it so he can video chat with his grandparents. They ended up getting them early so they could be utilized during the 5 hour car ride to Great Grandpa's house a couple weeks ago. Abraham likes the Leapfrog movies, but really isn't that into his phone. Hyrum really loves his though, and I think they were a good purchase.

The rest of the day was spent talked to extended family, eating and playing. Abraham ate 3 or 4 large packages of fruit snacks and had a massive stomach ache by bed time. We had Hawaiian pizza with the left over ham from our Christmas Eve dinner and watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas. After the kids were tucked into bed, Matthew and I watched the Dr. Who Christmas special. It was a lovely, laid back holiday. We were particularly trying to keep things simple this year and focused on reminding each other the true meaning of the holiday. We are grateful for Jesus Christ and the plan of happiness that He makes possible.
