This was a busy Halloween. I'll start by noting that it rained rather intensely all day long. For breakfast I made orange pancakes with chocolate chip smiley faces. I think the boys were a little put off by the food coloring because they certainly were not gobbled up the way they usually are. The whole family loaded into the van to take Matthew to school in time for his morning meeting. We then drove back past our house to take Hyrum to preschool. Then the youngest two and I turned around and again passed the house and Purdue and crossed the river to deliver some treats. We then returned home to feed Mercy some peas and make Matthew lunch (which I didn't have time to do earlier). Half an hour later, we picked up Hyrum, dropped off Matthew's food, and made one more delivery. It was then home for lunch and quiet time while I finished up our costumes. The boys played Angry Birds on my phone while Mercy and I took a shower and I sent them in to clean their room while I nursed. I found them 20 minutes later both tucked snugly into their beds, fast asleep. Unfortunately it was time to get ready for our Trunk-or-Treat. I woke them, got half a peanut butter sandwich into each of them, fed Mercy some more peas, and convinced Hyrum to put on his costume, all while talking on the phone to Grandma Naomi. We then picked Matthew up and got to the church in time for him to change. As seems to always be the case, there were far more people collecting candy than those passing it out. At least they moved it into the gym. Matthew considered taking the boys door to door, but he was beyond burnt out after a long day of dissertation writing and we didn't think we really needed that much more candy, so we returned home, ate some of the loot, and put the kids to bed.
The boys seemed reasonably pleased with their super hero outfits, and I had a lot of fun making them. I'm disappointed that we only have one lousy picture. I'll have to get everyone dressed up again and try for retakes when we're not all hyped up on sugar.
