Abraham turned two today and we celebrated it up. The boys' birthday's have been fairly low key events so far, but Matthew seemed to have a subconscience fear that our second born was getting shafted somehow, so we ended up going a bit over board (at least compared to years past). We decorated the play room with streamers and lots of balloons, which was a big hit. Both boys ran around kicking them for several minutes before even noticing the pile of presents.
At first Braums wasn't quite sure what to make of all the wrapped packages, but he figured it out pretty quickly with quite a lot of encouragement from his brother, who was very anxious for him to open them all. Abraham's haul included a color in the bathtub kit from Aunt Sarah, a little cars race track from Grandma and Grandpa Kress, a Hulk action figure from Grandma and Grandpa Johnson, and from mom and dad he got a dump truck, some bouncy balls, an Iron Man cartoon DVD, and a bag of Sweedish Fish.
After opening gifts and enjoying a special crepe breakfast, we decided on another adventure across the river. Abraham fell asleep in the car, so while he napped we stopped by JoAnn's for a few things we forgot a couple days ago, and then made a quick trip to Toys-R-Us to see if there was anything worth sending Matthew out on Black Friday for. It was then time for the big activity: Chuckie Cheese's! Turns out Monday morning is the time to go because we had the entire place to ourselves. We bought 100 tokens and let the boys pretty much run free. They had a blast, and Abraham especially didn't even need the tokens to enjoy all the lights and sounds and chaos. Even when we did give him a coin, he just liked to stick it in the first slot available and run away. Hyrum on the other hand understood the concept of money and making the games work. Toward the end he got a little obsessed, which indicated it was probably time to go. We got a decent amount of tickets and the boys purchased Sweet Tarts and some plastic whistles with their winnings.
Abraham took a good nap after his exciting morning and spent some time playing with all his new toys before it was time for his birthday dinner: broiled chicken drumsticks (which are his new favorite thing), green beans, biscuits, and of course birthday cake. He was, again, a bit unsure at first.
But it didn't take him long to start climbing on the table to get to the giant, sprinkle covered plate full of sweet deliciousness placed before him. It was a great day and we tried our best to shower him with attention and love. I hope in his two year old way he was able to know how very much we all adore him.
***
Two whole years of Abraham. He is most definitely in the no longer a toddler but not quite a big boy crazy into everything and I'm not at all sure what to do with you stage. He's as moody as his pregnant mama and it's pretty much impossible to know what's going on inside his head. He's grown so much in the past couple weeks. Often I get him up from his nap and am sure he's taller than when I put him down. He's taken a long time to start really talking, but all of a sudden he's full of new words and constantly interested in learning more. He's even starting to put two or three together to make statements and ask questions. I can only hope these new found verbal skills will contribute greatly to an increase of communication and a decrease in frustration. While not his most useful skill, his funnest trick is that he can (and loves to) identify the Avengers. We frequently give the boys comic books to look at while driving in the car, and I love to hear little Braums in the back seat cheering America! or chanting Hulk smash! Abraham is constantly on the move and is absolutely fearless. He's also very tender. He loves to give kisses and is very good at sharing. He's decided he's man, no matter what anyone else says. He's done using the high chair at the table, done sleeping in the crib, and on occasion he's done taking an afternoon nap. He loves wearing clothes (as opposed to pajamas) and is obsessed with shoes. Oh, little Abraham, how I love you. Even when you drive me insane, I can't imagine what I would ever do without you. Happy Birthday sweet boy!
