Getting to know Hyrum

When Hyrum was born, we had a hard time figuring out who he looked like. While I still don't think he looks much like either of his parents, he does seem to be growing into himself more and more each day. He was born with dark hair, but it's gotten much lighter. He still has no real eyebrows. We're not sure what color is eyes will be, but we see more and more green in them every day. He had really thin floppy ears at birth which are now filling in and firming up. He has long fingers and toes. I love his toes! He can almost interdigitate them, and his little pinkie toe is practically opposable. He is remarkably strong and super squirmy. He can lift and hold his head up and can roll from his back to either side. After he eats though he has very little control and flops around like a drunkard. He flails a lot too and his hands are often very active. He loves to suck. They tell me he came out of the womb sucking. I'd love to give him a pacifier, but he's a good nurser and I'm afraid a binkie might interfere with that. He rarely cries, and really only fusses when coming out of sleep or getting his diaper changed. He makes really funny faces when he's sleeping. I love his sweet little smile. He doesn't like being naked, but doesn't mind getting his nails trimmed. He startles at some noises but not others and seems to like the sound of the tv on. He can't focus on looking at specific things yet, but will stare at lights. He loves to be held, and Matthew says he's turning into a mama's boy because I am usually very obliging when it comes to cuddling my boy. He does need to learn to sleep on his own for more than an hour at a time at night though. I miss sleeping at the same time/place as my husband. He's a sweet boy and I am loving getting to know him.

I would use the binkie. That is how I trained both my boys to sleep through the night. Around 2 1/2 months instead of feeding them when they woke, I'd just put them in the car seat, lay down next to them, and keep giving them the binkie every time they woke up. After a few days...presto, they slept through the night. But each baby is different...so you'll have to see what little Hyrum does! You'll just seem to know what he needs. It's so fun getting to know a baby. Each day Heinz still learns something new, it's just a joy to have kids and be a Mommy!!

Sounds like you have a good baby. Alexis cried until she was 3 months old. She had black hair when she was born--weird. I think Hyrum looks like you. It is so weird hearing about you being a mommy--last I saw you, you were complaining about boy problems--probably!

Seriously, you'd think they'd WANT to get out of those dirty, wet diapers. A mystery we grown-ups will probably never solve.
K took to the binky well and never had problems nursing. It might be worth a shot...but do what you think is best. Good luck!
