A Lost Dog and Celebrating Dad

Father's Day was eventful, to say the least, but perhaps not in the most ideal way. We had stake conference on Sunday, and even though they were broadcasting the meeting to all the different buildings, we still had to drive down to the stake center because Hyrum was one of the speakers. Since I knew we'd be gone for several hours, I wanted to make everyone a real breakfast. We were a bit short on time, but I managed to get malted pancakes and sausage ready for everyone to eat as they came off the pan. We all got showered and dressed and about 10 minutes before it was time to leave, Matthew went out back to put the dogs in the dog run. They had both been sitting at the back door just moments before, but when Matthew went out, Remy was gone. We searched all over the back yard and in the neighbor's yard (because Remy had been jumping the wall to play with Bella, but he'd always hopped back over into our yard when he was done). We drove around the block and called, but no Remy. Hyrum needed to get down to the stake center though, so I took him down while Dad and the kids kept searching. Eventually they gave up and went to our ward building to watch conference. Hyrum did a wonderful job talking about how he's preparing now to serve a mission.

As soon as we got home, Matthew and I went out on our normal walk to see if Remy was along that route. It was about a million degrees out (high 90's) and we figured he was probably laying low in some shaded spot somewhere. We finally bit the bullet and let the Lignell's know we had lost their dog. They were completely unphased. They said Remy had a history of running away, and that they had no doubt he'd be found soon. They came by in the late afternoon to pick up their dog crate, and again told us not to worry. Sure enough, a couple hours later our neighbor across the street called to say he had found Remy playing at the little park just a couple houses down the street. Scott came to collect his dog and all was well, but boy did it cause us a day of stress!

Aside from our dog drama, Father's day was nice enough. I attempted to secretly get Matthew some normal sized needle nose pliers, but the receipt got sent to his email, so even though I snuck out and paid in cash, he still found out beforehand. Hyrum made him a pig shaped knife holder out of cardboard, and Mercy made him a pop-up card. We were meant to have tacos and soufflé for dinner, but with everything going on, we settled for enchiladas (which were already mostly made) and the last of some cheapo Walmart ice cream. In the evening we played a new board game, Photosynthesis, which was fun, and took some brownies and a sign over to the Brown's to wish Haley a happy birthday.

Perhaps it wasn't a Father's day for the books, but we sure love our Dad and appreciate who he is and all he does for us. He's definitely someone we can celebrate all year 'round!
