Summer Week 2

Hyrum made us all french toast for breakfast on Sunday and we moved Abraham's drum set up into the sitting room (formerly the Barrios' bedroom).

I got up and rode the Volcanoes at 7 am on Monday morning. Riding on the trainer is fine, but there's nothing better than riding outside and I'd like to get out more often, even if it means I have to do it by myself. At noon on Monday, a 250 lb roll of artificial turf was delivered. Matthew and I were both quite impressed with ourselves that we were able to get it back to the side yard without any extra help. As anxious as we were to get started installing the turf, we had to wait because a storm system had moved over New Mexico and it rained buckets all evening making work outside entirely impractical. Instead, Matthew and the kids worked in the garage. We gave the kids the laptop I bought in college, which has long since stopped working, and they focused on trying to take it apart to see the inside.

On Tuesday afternoon we did a kid swap with the Susan Brown's. I dropped Mercy off to play with Olivia, and Haley came home with us to play with the boys. We got the turf laid out, but it again started raining, so progress on that project was again halted.

On Wednesday I finally finished the hot air balloon quilt I started for baby Lucas about 6 months ago. Cassie and Beto came over in the evening to do laundry, and Matthew went to Jeb's for archery. Hannah and the girls are out of town this week, so the kids and I stayed home. Mercy scheduled with me to make clam chowder, so Wednesday she was my cooking buddy.

Thursday was mostly spent making a quick rag blanket for a sister in the ward having a baby. The boys also came in and sewed themselves some pouches to hold the rupees they designed and 3D printed. Jeb came over for Chicken and Waffles, then after dinner Matthew had online High Council. Matthew worked for short bursts of time over a couple days and got the turf all stapled down, so Thursday night the kids broke it in with an outside sleepover.

Today we ran some errands and finished getting the dog run ready. This evening we joined the Jolley's and a couple other families for a drive-in movie experience. Mindy hired a guy with a projector to put on a show on the side of a building for Dave's birthday. We cozied up in the back of the white truck with popcorn and candy, and watched The Emperor's New Groove. We didn't have a portable radio, so we couldn't hear super well, but it was a good time anyway.
