Conference Weekend

The weekend of General Conference is always highly looked forward to, but this year our anticipation was particularly peaked. President Nelson said last October that this spring conference would be unique and unforgettable. It is the 200th anniversary of the first vision, and the Prophet had encouraged us to study the restoration in preparation for this weekend. I don't know that he knew we'd be in the midst of a pandemic, but that alone made this General Conference different than any other. It was held in a small conference room and only those who were speaking in a specific session were in attendance. Those that were in the room sat 6 feet apart, which was a bit comical to behold. The Tabernacle Choir prerecorded a few songs, and the rest were from past conferences. Other than that though, it actually felt quite normal. I appreciated the talks focusing on the restoration and the blessings we have because of Joseph Smith's experience. I felt like there was an emphasis placed on preparation for the second coming, and I felt a renewed desire to be wholly committed and entirely obedient to the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Unique elements of the conference included two youth speakers, the introduction of a new proclamation, and the conducting of a solemn assembly and the Hosanna Shout.

Of course, there was also delicious food and lots of cuddling. We had pancakes, and sausage strata, and rustic bread with artichoke dip, and turkey carnitas, and snacks galore.

The CDC has started encouraging everyone to wear face masks in public, so the demand for non-medical masks has skyrocketed. I was encouraged to make some to sell on my Etsy shop, so I spent several hours making ones to sell as well as some to give to ward members.
