We had planned on putting built-in bookshelves in the spaces left from the cutout windows that used to be along this wall in the great room. They've sat as alcoves gathering stuff for 18 months and we've just not felt good about any of our shelving designs. Matthew somewhat off-handedly suggested we just fill in the wall, and we both felt so good about the idea. We've learned in our marriage to wait and wait as long as it takes until something feels right, then act. So a just a day or two after our discussion, we got to work.
Wednesday 2/12
clearing out all the stuff and trimming the flooring
Friday 2/14
framing, drywall, taping, and mudding
Friday 2/21
skim coating
Tuesday 2/25
sanding and texture
Thursday 2/27
priming
Friday 2/28
painting
Finished! Matthew thinks it looks too minimalistic and plain, but I love it! I love that stuff won't accumulate and that the room is even more versatile than it was before. Some artwork as we find pieces we like will add just the right amount of visual interest.
