Kress Visit: Part 2

The boys had karate on Saturday morning. Grandpa stayed to watch their class, but Matthew and us girls ran a quick errand at Walmart then took a little walk across the bridge that leads down into the Bosque. We didn't have time to go as far as we would have liked, but we got to see the river and take a quick picture before turning around. The boys had earned their orange belt and we needed to be back in time for the little ceremony.

The rest of the day was just more every day life. The kids went to a birthday party, during which Grandma and I ran a couple errands and played several rounds of Seven Wonders Duel. Matthew and Grandpa kept working on the doors. In the evening Grandma made us a delicious ratatouille using some of her home grown zucchini, and afterwards we enjoyed more ice cream while watching Godzilla.

On Sunday Grandma volunteered to take my place as the volunteer extra person in Mercy's primary class, which worked out well since I was asked last minute to substitute as the Sunday School teacher. After church, we had a fun little Family Night lesson and enjoyed the rest of the day hanging out and playing games.

Monday was Labor Day, so there was no school or work and we had all day together! Matthew and Grandpa continued working on the doors, but took plenty of breaks to play video games with the boys. Grandma and Mercy spent most of the day working on a skirt, and I worked on the rag quilt we had cut out last week.

The kids went back to school yesterday and after dropping them off, Grandma and Grandpa went on a long walk to collect a box full of cactus fruit to take back to Utah. Matthew took the day off and he and Grandpa were able to finish assembling the doors. Grandma and I spent most of the day in the sewing room. She ironed all the t-shirts for a commissioned quilt I'm working on, and I finished the rag quilt. She also helped with some mending and finished the yarn rug. After school I took full advantage of them and truly appreciated the extra help with homework and piano practice. In the evening, the boys and I had Cub Scouts and Activity Days, and Mercy was able to spend one last night with Grandma's full attention.

Grandma and Grandpa left early this morning, and we already miss them. We weren't focused on any big projects and didn't go on any particularly exciting outings, but it was truly a joy to share a week of every day life with them.
