South Point Trail

I knew there were lots of unofficial trails in the wilderness back behind the school, made by dirt bikes and go carts and the like, but yesterday the kids and I discovered an actual trail head to a legit trail in the Petroglyphs National Monument. It's been there this whole time and I don't know how I've hiked around up there so often and have never seen it!

Yesterday we were just out for a leisurely Sunday stroll and were not equipped for a proper hike on a trail we were unfamiliar with (plus, it was Sunday), so we only walked in about half a mile before turning back for home.

I was determined today to see where it goes, so I put on some proper shoes, filled up a water bottle, and set out on an adventure. The trail is not difficult and runs about two miles before connecting to the Volcanoes trail. I'm thrilled to have found a proper, free of dumped trash trail not half a mile from my front door. It's not a very exciting trail, but it's pretty in it's own desert-y sort of way and I'm sure I will frequent it often in the future.
