Hyrum requested and helped make German pancakes for breakfast. He then played some Minecraft with his dad and brother until it was time to open presents.
Mercy drew him a picture, the Kress grandparents gave him a remote control boxing toy, aunt Sarah gave him the Series of Unfortunate Events books, the Johnson grandparents gave him the Harry Potter books, and from mom and dad he got a shirt and a hand held video game player. I don't think Hyrum could have been more pleased with his gifts and we hardly saw or heard from him the rest of the day as he was immediately sucked into the world of Nintendo.
Around 4:30 he re-emerged and decided he was getting hungry. For his birthday dinner he requested milanesa sandwiches and soda pop, with brownies and mint ice cream for dessert. After we ate he asked if they could paint the mini's they got for Christmas.
It's a bit strange seeing your oldest become less and less enthusiastic about balloons and attention and more interested in doing his own thing. Hyrum is definitely growing into his independence and really is a good, responsible boy. While he still has his selfish and over controlling moments, he is getting noticeably kinder and more patient with his younger siblings. He is helpful and thoughtful and truly wants to do what is right. Eight was great, and we look forward to seeing what nine has in store! Happy Birthday Hyrum!
