Grandma made sweet rolls for breakfast this morning and afterwards I cuddled with the kids on the couch while we watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Mercy had hurt her arm wrestling with dad and was a bit grumpy, so we put her down for a nap after lunch.
We helped Grandma get everything together and the kids all ready, then she and Grandpa took the kids to Shawna’s church while Matthew, Sarah and I left to stand in line for coupons at JC Penny’s. The doors opened at 3:00 and we got our $10 off $10 coupons, used them on coats for the boys, and were out the door by 3:10. We managed to go through the line two more times for a total of three coupons each. The store was pretty packed at that point, so we decided to head off to our Thanksgiving feast and return on Black Friday to use the rest of our coupons.
Our dinner gathering was smaller than it has been in the past, but we still had about 25 people there. The food was good and the company delightful. Mercy was particularly enamored with her older, returned missionary second cousins. Peter and Patrik were fairly smitten with her as well. They asked her how she turned out so cute with Matthew as her dad and she responded with "Well, my mom helped make me too".
I just love the concept of aunts, uncles, cousins and all manner of extended family. Even if we only see them once a year, we will always be family. My children will always have a connection to these people and to whatever the degree, they will always be a part of our lives. I am so thankful for that.
