Unexpected Turn of Events

We got up early this morning to go help clean the church. In Indiana we used to go to Mary Lou's Doughnuts after fulfilling our building cleaning assignments, which was a fun little tradition, so this morning we asked the kids if they wanted to go get doughnuts. They all said no. We thought that a little strange, but went to the shop anyway. Matthew and I each got one, with a little encouragement Abraham and Mercy ended up picking out ones with sprinkles, and Hyrum sat in a corner and didn't order anything at all. The doughnuts were alright, but not nearly as good as Mary Lou's and definitely over priced. We arrived home to find Abraham and Mercy had both only licked the frosting off the top of theirs, so we decided we're probably done with doughnut runs.

There was a ward pinewood derby activity scheduled for this evening and while Matthew had said he didn't want to enter a car, he decided last minute it would be fun to build one with the kids. It was a beautiful day, so we opened up the garage and Matthew and Hyrum got to work creating a monster truck derby car. Abraham and Mercy spent most of their time outside playing in a pile of saw dust.

I gave Mercy a bath, and Abraham was acting lethargic and said his tummy kind of hurt, so I let them watch a show while I prepared our contribution of meat for the ward party and got ready for our afternoon bike ride. Hyrum hadn't really eaten anything all day and said he wasn't feeling great either, but when I asked if he still wanted to go to Harry's house, he perked up and put his shoes on, so despite some unsettling feelings about our afternoon plans, we went ahead with them.

I dropped Hyrum off at the Jolley's, then parked nearby at Hannah's brother's house. She dropped her girls off there and we started our ride. We rode 4.5 miles up Unser and met Matthew with Abraham, Mercy, and the Weehoo in the parking lot of the Volcanoes. We did the 8.3 miles in crazy high winds and Matthew had an extra 100 lbs behind him. It was a tough ride and I felt the whole time that I just couldn't catch my breath, but the day was gorgeous and it felt nice to be out.

Not long after we arrived back in the parking lot, Abraham projectile vomited. Twice. It was unfortunate, but at least he waited until the ride was over. We got him cleaned up and Matthew headed home with the kids and the trailer in the truck. Hannah and I rode the 4.5 miles back down Unser then I went to pick up Hyrum in the Van. Turns out he was throwing up at just about the same time his brother was. Mindy was very gracious about it, but I still felt bad that I had ignored the feeling to keep them both home.

I was in charge of the prizes for the pinewood derby race and Matthew had worked so hard to finish his car, so we sent him with the prizes, taco meat, and monster truck off to the church and I stayed home with the sick kids. Hyrum threw up a couple more times and I didn't feel too comfortable about the integrity of either of their stomachs, so I put them to sleep on the living room floor with a trash can between them and I camped out on the couch. Mercy, thankfully, was doing just fine and went to bed with minimal fuss in her own room.
