The boys had another four day weekend thanks to parent teacher conferences. Thursday morning was primarily spent making a paper bag hand puppet for Hyrum's book report and playing with Lego's. In the afternoon we met a few friends at the park for a play date. Hyrum's bicycle had come Wednesday evening, and Matthew took the peddles off so he can practice on it as a balance bike first. Hyrum was very excited to take it out for a spin.
Abraham's bicycle arrived that afternoon, so as soon as Dad got home it was assembled and we headed over to the dog park.
Mercy couldn't be left out, so she wore her helmet too.
Jeb and the girls came over after dinner to work on the bookshelves. The kids had so much fun playing house and everyone was sad when Hannah came to get Cora and Luci at 8:30. Because we had friends over, the kids didn't get to bed until nearly 9:00 pm, which made Abraham's 8:00 am parent teacher conference feel awful early. We made it on time though, and his teacher had only positive things to say about him. He communicates and plays well with others and is on course with all the developmental skills they track.
Matthew went from the school straight to work, and the rest of us returned home to work on the written portion of Hyrum's report. At 10:00 we went back to the park for play group and this time both boys were able to bring their bikes. After lunch, quiet time, a snack, and some picking up, we went over to the dog park. I borrowed a Strider bike from the Shaw's for Mercy to try out and she was so pleased to be riding along with the big boys. Hyrum and Abraham have nearly mastered balancing and after just a couple days are just about ready for peddles and real bike riding.
We returned home just as Dad pulled in the driveway, and I sent him back out to pick up pizza for dinner. We and the kids ate, leaving a few pieces for the babysitter who arrived at quarter to 5:00. Matthew and I then left for the Temple. It was lovely to be there, and especially nice to go together, since that rarely happens. Afterwards we went to Rita's Italian Ice for a little treat and all the way around it was a fantastic date. Once home, Matthew generated a new, updated Minecraft world. I played with him for about half an hour then went to bed. He stayed up playing until 2:30 am.
Saturday morning the boys set themselves up at three different computers and settled in for a Minecraft party. Hyrum and I left at 10:30 for his buddy Wade's baptism. We drove his teacher, Sister Dixie, home afterwards then stopped by the grocery store. My shoulder was mysteriously super sore when I woke up, and my stomach wasn't feeling great, so as soon as I got everyone fed, I went down for a four hour nap while the rest of the family played computer. I got up and made some dinner, we read scriptures, got the kids to sleep, and Matthew left for D&D. I watched a couple episodes of the Full House reboot, which I found a bit disappointing, and went back to bed.
It appears that sickness is running rampant in our ward and I spent the morning receiving texts from teachers saying they wouldn't be at church. I went to Ward Council, came home to help gather everyone, and the whole family miraculously made it to church together. We only had eleven kids in junior primary, so we were able to combine classes and the lack of teachers ended up being a non-issue. I baked a double batch of snicker-doodles after dinner to deliver to some home and visiting teaching families that didn't get visited this month and we Skyped with Matthew's parents.
We don't have another day off of school until Spring break at the end of March, so hopefully these long weekends in February have been enough to get us through the next several weeks of real life.
