I've felt for a while that I really want to fine tune my ability to hear the impressions of the Holy Spirit. I had a somewhat elaborate plan that I thought would help me do this, but as I was praying to know how I should incorporate my desire with a tangible goal for the new year, I felt very sure that there were two rather straight forward things I needed to do. First, I need to read the Book of Mormon each day with Hyrum. Second, I need to attend the Temple monthly.
Attending the Temple I don't think will be too hard. I just need to make it a priority and do it. Reading with Hyrum, however, I have already learned will be much more difficult. Setting a goal that involves the participation of a not entirely enthusiastic seven year old seems practically doomed from the get go, but I feel so strongly that it will not only help me hone my ability to hear and follow the Spirit, but it will be instrumental in Hyrum's everyday well being in addition to being a pivotal experience in his spiritual development. It will take some work to figure out how to make it happen, but I know it will be worth it.
