The Last Few Days

Monday morning the boys had their 6 month check up at the dentist. They did fine, no cavities were found, and everyone left with new toothbrushes. We then went grocery shopping. It's been a really long time since I've take all three kids to the super market with me, and I was reminded why I don't do it more often. It was good to get the refrigerator and pantry restocked though, so I suppose the stress of it all was a price worth paying. The headache I'd had since I came home from the hospital had gotten pretty bad by mid afternoon, so the dentist and shopping were about all that got done that day.

The headache was almost unbearable on Tuesday and I spent most of the day hiding in my darkened bedroom. I was also having a lot of cramps and the bleeding had picked up a bit, so I called the doctor and was able to move my follow up appointment to the next day.

Matthew went in to work Wednesday morning, but came home early so I could go to my appointment at 2:30. The bleeding had pretty much stopped, but the headache was still very intense. I was told when I arrived that the doctor was running about an hour behind schedule. I could have made another appointment, but I really wanted to get things figured out so I could return to normal life, so I chose to wait. After discussing all my symptoms, the doctor decided on several tests she wanted done. She said she could write me referrals to the various clinics I'd have to go to, or I could go to the ER and have everything brought to me. Since we'd already met our deductible, I decided to go with the second option. They took blood, did a uterine ultrasound, and a CT scan of my head. The lab work showed that I was a bit anemic but my hemoglobin was fine, the ultrasound showed that all traces of the pregnancy were gone and the uterine walls were back to normal thickness, and the CT scan showed no abnormalities. The ER doctor concluded that with my past history of migraines and the recent trauma and stress I'd experienced, the headache that had been plaguing me for over a week was probably just a migraine and not something more serious. He gave me a medicine I hadn't tried before and had me wait around until we knew if it worked. It definitely lessened the intensity of my pain, and after a total of six hours since my original appointment, I was sent home. I picked up a bottle of the medicine to ward any future headaches and got home well after the kids were in bed.

I woke up yesterday feeling better than I had in a very long time. I had a primary presidency meeting in the morning, we played outside in the afternoon, and delivered thank you notes to people who had served us in the evening. When I was leaving for my appointment on Wednesday, Abraham asked me in a very sad voice if I'd have to lay down in bed when I got home from the doctor. It broke my heart. I told him that when I was all better, we'd have a sleepover, so last night I delivered on my promise for a party. We put Mercy to bed, then pulled the boys' mattresses into the loft and put on Guardians of the Galaxy. They lasted about 45 minutes before Abraham asked if we could go to bed. I had planned on just sleeping on the couch with them, but Matthew felt left out, so we drug their mattresses into our room and the boys slept at the foot of our bed. They seemed happy enough with the situation and I got to bed before 10:00 pm so it was a win win for everyone.
