Moments of My Life

With the holiday season upon us, time seems to be speeding up. I want to enjoy every second of it but half the time I feel like I'm running around with my head cut off. I think one of my goals for next year will be to learn how to live in the moment. In the mean time, here's a quick overview of what we've been up to:

Abraham's birthday was on Tuesday. On Wednesday I did housework and met with my visiting teacher who came over in the afternoon. Thursday was our quarterly Relief Society meeting. I was recently called to be on the committee, so Thursday morning was spent at the church setting up, then I came home to candy almonds and cut up 18 heads of romaine lettuce. Matthew and I had stayed up the night before shredding fresh Parmesan and cubing 5 lbs of Mozzarella. I went back to the church at 5 to assemble and plate the salad and help with last minute details. The Theme of the evening was Because I have been given much, I too must give. After dinner (craisin salad, two types of soup, bread, and punch) we had a really beautiful musical number, then two classes on gratitude and service. While that was going on, we set up dessert: chocolate fountains with lots of fun things to dip. The whole evening was a big success and we got a lot of positive feedback. We were also able to collect family night kits to give to the families our ward is sponsoring for Christmas. The sisters in this ward are so generous and giving. The committee stayed late to clean up, and I got home a little after 10. I am really grateful to have the opportunity to work with such fun women providing sisters the chance to fellowship and serve.

Friday morning the kids and I went to aerobics. I went regularly until I got pregnant with Abraham. I was so nauseous with him in the beginning that I couldn't handle all the movement, and then just never made it back. I've hit my weight goal, but that doesn't mean I'm in shape or as healthy as I'd like to be. Exercising on my own doesn't seem to be happening, so I decided I needed something on a schedule involving other people. Plus, with the weather getting so cold, it's a good opportunity for the boys to run around. It was okay. That night for dinner we went to the birthday party of one of Hyrum's friends. After getting the kids to bed, I went over to the house of a sister in the ward (the boys call her grandma) to get some help on a quilting project.

I spent yesterday riding the ups and downs of an emotional roller coaster. Mercy has dropped a feeding and my hormones are going a little crazy trying to adjust. Matthew had planned on going in to school, but instead spent the day running errands with me. He's a good man. Last night we hooked the computer up to the TV and watched the Dr Who 50th anniversary special. It was pretty good.

At one point yesterday I had gotten frustrated and was in tears, so Matthew took the boys away to occupy them for a while. After a few minutes, Abraham came in silently and gave me a kiss. I got down on the floor to hug him and with his arms wrapped tightly around my neck he whispered in my ear Mommy, you're my best friend. Oh, that sweet boy. These are the moments I live for.
