Matthew's birthday was laid back and low key. He took the day off, and spent a large portion of it doing woodworking in the garage. While Hyrum was at school, I planned to make a birthday cake. I turned the oven on to pre-heat and after about 10 minutes heard a strange buzzing noise, a loud pop, and opened the door to find the bottom heating element had burst into flames! It melted off a 3 inch section and burned a small hole through the bottom of the oven. Yikes! I already had the cake mixed up so I called my neighbor and she was kind enough to bake it for me while I went to pick up Hyrum.
Once home, Matthew opened his presents. He got an apple pie and a case of IBC root beer from me and the boys, some really nice Fiskars shears and scissors and some timer plugs from his parents, and an Arduino board with a home energy monitoring shield from his brother.
Abraham was watching how Dad would hold up each gift so I could take a picture and started copying him. He was very excited about it being a birthday and sought out his did several times during the day to tell him Happy Birthday! It was very endearing.
For his birthday meal, Matthew requested spicy chicken sandwiches. He ate three, with lettuce, tomato, and hot mustard sauce, along with a frosty root beer and jalapeno kettle chips.
The sister missionaries were in the area and stopped by to tell me an appointment I was scheduled to go to with them had been moved to later in the afternoon. It was lunch time and they hadn't eaten yet, so I invited them in for a quick bite. We had left overs for dinner and cake just before putting the boys to bed. Matthew and I then stayed up and watched a few episodes of Red Dwarf.
Happy Birthday Matthew. You are the best HubHub and best Daddy. We love you!
