Matthew has been really into baking bread lately. It's something he's thought a lot about on and off in the past, but this recent obsession started when he checked out Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day from the library several weeks ago. The idea is that you make up a really hydrated dough, store it in the fridge, and pull off a chunk the day you want to bake. He's made some delicious free form loaves, a pan loaf, Brioche, and several really yummy pizzas.
Of course, not all of his attempts have been successful. We tried our hand at bagels, which turned out horrible, and he's been experimenting with using home-ground whole wheat which so far hasn't yielded anything exactly edible. One dough turned out far too wet and didn't rise at all, so instead of making a snack, the boys built a fort instead.

Cool beans! I've been experimenting with soaking my flour and doing sourdough as well. Happy...breading?
