Note to Self

Dear Julianne,

At some point in the future, maybe in a couple years or possibly even next week, you are going to say to yourself, "I'm so tired, and I'm not getting anything done. I used to be able to ____. Why can't I now?" You need to remember that you are in a season. Right now, you are not pregnant nor did you recently give birth. Your husband's currant work situation permits a certain amount of flexibility, allowing him to be home more often than perhaps a regular 9 to 5 would. The set up of your house includes a childproof room full of toys and another room dedicated to the computer and sewing machine. The stars are aligned and this is a season of productivity. You are cooking and sewing and blogging and cleaning and exercising and crossing stuff off your someday maybe list. You serve with the missionaries, write notes to old friends, and take the boys to the park, the library, and on walks in the woods. You are getting things done.

Keep in perspective though, that this is a season not entirely void of difficulty. By the end of the summer, Matthew will have spent 75 days out of town, leaving you alone with the boys. Remember how you didn't have air conditioning for a couple months, how you've had to adapt to a big change in Abraham's diet, and that while you may not be pregnant, you wish you were. No season, no matter how great, is without it's hardships.

When you look back on the summer you turned 31, remember first that you have the life you always dreamed of. You are a wife and a mother. You have a really great husband and two beautiful, healthy boys that you love so much. No matter where you are in the future, you have that to be eternally grateful for. You know that God lives and loves you, and you are enjoying the blessings of obedience to His commandments. You see His hand in your life and know that all things work out according to His divine plan. Remember, you have faith in that plan. And lastly, think back and remember this season as one of the happiest times of your life.

Love,
Julianne
