To stave off monotony and avoid getting sick of each other, I try to keep us pretty busy. This past week we went to the Zoo on Tuesday, had a play date with Shayla and her super cute boys on Wednesday, fed the missionaries on Thursday, Sarah R. watched my boys on Friday so I could run some errands, and Saturday was the BBQ. This coming week is full too: tonight the boys are going to play with Amy W.'s boys while I go to teach a lesson with the Sisters, then we have dinner dates with three different families on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and Melanie offered to watch the boys on Friday so I can have some alone time. Keeping busy at home is a bit more tricky. Neither of them are particularly crafty, though on occasion I can get them to color for half an hour. We spend an awful lot of time dumping out containers of blocks, train tracks, car tracks, guys, legos, dominoes, books... These boys like to dump. When the weather is nice, we like to play outside, which then often leads to long bubble baths before bed. Hyrum typically watches a show during quiet time, which is when I attempt to get the housekeeping done. There are of course meals and our daily conversation with Matthew over Skype, so really there's not too much time to be sad or sorry for myself.
I am amazed at the love and support I have received from the amazing Ward members here. From Home and Visiting teachers to friends and people I hardly talk to, everyone has been so kind. I wonder if I don't pull of the single mother thing very gracefully or if people are really just that nice and the other women in similar situations are receiving the same kind of attention. I hope the latter is true, and that I remember to serve as generously when opportunities arise.
