Signs and Symptoms

A child with roseola typically develops a mild upper respiratory illness

followed by a high fever (often over 103° F) for up to a week.

Check (103.2)

During this time, the child may appear fussy or irritable and may have a decreased appetite and swollen lymph nodes (glands) in the neck.

Check, Check, Check

The high fever often ends abruptly, and at about the same time a pinkish-red rash appears on the trunk and spreads over the body.

Duration

The fever of Roseola lasts from 3 to 7 days, followed by a rash lasting  from hours to a few days.

Treatment

Roseola usually does not require professional treatment, and when it does, most treatment is aimed at reducing the high fever. Antibiotics cannot treat roseola because a virus, not a bacterium, causes it.

I remember Alexis had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic. She had a red, puffy map of the world on her face. She was only a couple of months old and I was devastated to see her beautiful face and skin covered in a red rash.

I am sorry you have to see your little one so uncomfortable. Temperatures can be so heartbreaking!

ICK! No fun for Mommy. Poor little thing. Lucky he has a great mom to make him feel better.
