12 months (plus a little)

Hyrum's first birthday was December 27, so this post is a little belated. The actual day wasn't all that remarkable, except that the grown-ups ate gyoza, a fabulous Japanese dish, for dinner. Hijo was fussy at church, took a long afternoon nap, enjoyed his cupcake, and went to bed early. That pattern seems to be becoming something of a habit (minus the cupcake part). Here are some other things common to my not so wee one.

He's getting good at copying things we do, like putting a ball through a hole or stomping his feet. He'll also hand me things when I ask him to, though he usually expects me to give them back.

He loves books. He can spend nearly an hour alone in his crib looking at his books and babbling quietly to himself.

He says "whoa" all the time: when he pushes a button, when he picks up a sock, when he falls over, when he drops a piece of banana over the edge of his highchair...

When he's done eating he starts throwing his food off his tray onto the floor. If he's not drinking, he doesn't want his cup on the tray and tries to toss it too. (Considering we eat in the dining room over carpet, meals can be a rather trying time for me)

He's not a fan of being left alone. He doesn't particularly want anything to do with you when you're in the room, but he sure hates it if you leave. He's pretty good about alone time when he wakes up though, which is nice.

He's afraid of the vacuum, but will follow it around the house crying. One of those love/hate relationships I guess.

He doesn't like socks. He takes them off every chance he gets.

And here's one of his birthday pictures demonstrating the face (and you can imagine the sound) he makes when you take something away from him. In this particular case we were attempting to get glow worm out of the package so he could play with it, but patience is not this child's middle name.

It is so much fun reading about your life and that of Hyrum. Even though we can't be there, this blog is a great way to participate vicariously. We really enjoy hearing all about your little family and love the pictures says Dad in Colorado.
