Highlights Week 23

Matthew and I went down to the stake center Sunday morning for one last meeting regarding youth conference. We had invited the Barrios over for dinner that night, but they weren't feeling well, so they didn't end up coming.

Swim team started on Monday. It felt very disorganized this year, and there seemed to be more kids and fewer coaches than in years past, but we were happy to get our summer staple started. This year they have the opportunity to swim for two hours instead of just one. The kids aren't exactly thrilled about that, but it means I have plenty of time to go to the gym while they are swimming, which works out great for me. The boys are hoping to get into the diving class during the second hour, but the roster is full so they have to wait a week or two to see if there are dropouts. It was especially nice that Grandma was here for this first week while we got our swimming/gym routine figured out.

Mercy decided that her beloved stuffed moose had finally become threadbare enough that it was time for her to retire (which means she comes to live in my room with pinky and sunshine bear - beloved toys from my childhood). She worked for two days on plans and decorations, including sewing a special retirement sleeping bag, and on Wednesday we threw a little retirement party. It was complete with guests, finger sandwiches, cake, and even several cards. Sidenote: my mama heart was full seeing that both the brothers humored the whole thing and wrote congratulatory cards to their sister's stuffed moose.

Olivia stayed after the party was over, and came with us as we stopped by the temple on our way to meet the rest of the Browns for an evening of bowling.

Thursday was mostly filled with final youth conference preparations, but we did manage to fit in one last round of bowling with Grandma.

This week's new recipes included Berbere chicken with Ethiopian lentils, Thai Basil and coconut shrimp over rice, and Thai Basil turkey lettuce wraps. The chicken was okay, but both the basil dishes were really delicious and highly praised.
