The Barrios came over for tikka masala and FHE on Sunday. Abraham has helped me with the naan before, and this time he was able to cook the entire double batch all by himself while I worked on the curry.
Matthew was finally feeling all the way better and cleared to go back to work just when the kids had a couple of days off of school. On Monday, President's day, the kids and I spent the morning at the Dentist getting cleanings and checkup's, then Hyrum went to the Jolley's while Abraham, Mercy, and I spent the afternoon at the Barajas house. Tuesday was a teacher inservice day at Tres Volcanes. Abraham and Mercy spent the day just hanging out at the house while I baked, but Hyrum had a big D&D game at the Jolley's that lasted most of the afternoon.
Wednesday morning in seminary we talked about Esau selling his birthright to Jacob. As an object lesson, the kids could choose to have a mini chocolate cupcake right then, or they could wait and enjoy a big slice of decadent mousse filled cake the next morning. They all chose cake the next morning, so our family got to enjoy lots of little cupcakes that night. There was a snow delay on Thursday, so our entire morning, including seminary, got pushed back two hours. That was probably fortuitous, because the cake was very rich and a bit more palatable at 8am than perhaps it would have been at 6:00.
The Walkers got a coveted slot to do baptisms at the Temple on Friday evening, and invited us to join them. Abraham already had a birthday party to go to, so it was just Hyrum, Matthew, and me, and we had a really nice time just the three of us. When we were done at the Temple, we picked up a carton of ice cream from the grocery store, an order of fries from 5 Guys, and came home to watch a show of Hyrum's choosing. Mercy spent the evening at the Barrios, and had a fun time as well.
We got an early start on the day this morning, and went first thing to help clean the church. From there I took the boys and picked up the Jensen and Jolley youth for a combined YM/YW hike. The middle of the day was spent doing chores and filming, then in the afternoon Hyrum had tennis. Because we had the temple on Friday, we moved our pizza and movie night to this evening.
In other news, we (mostly Mercy) looked after the Ahlstrom's cats for the week while they were on vacation, Dad went to book club for the first time in forever, and Mercy got 3 cavities filled.
