We left West Jordan at 5:30 am on my birthday. We stopped at our usual rest area just past Moab to eat some breakfast and give Dolly a potty break, then hoped to make our way home in good time because we had big plans for the evening.
The drive home was uneventful until a couple miles outside Cortez when our back drivers side tire blew. It didn't just go flat, it exploded. I was driving and gratefully was able to pull over safely. Matthew adeptly got out the spare and changed the tire, only to find our replacement had gone flat. We were once again grateful to make it to a gas station on the outskirts of town where we were able to fill the tire with air. We continued to be grateful as the tire held and got us home safely.
The whole flat tire ordeal took a pretty decent chunk of time, and we had to stop by the farm in Grants to deliver Dolly, so we didn't make it home until 5:45. That gave us a whole 15 minutes to unload the truck and change clothes before heading over to Jeb and Hannah's. We met up at the Brown's at 6:15 and Jeb drove us all to the Isleta Amphitheater for a Foo Fighters concert. It was a lot of fun, though Matthew and I were both pretty exhausted. For as clean as their music is, there was an awful lot of swearing and I wasn't a huge fan of the various vapors swirling around us the whole night. I don't usually feel my age, and I certainly don't look it, but at the concert I felt 40.
The concert ended at 11pm, but because of traffic, we didn't get home until 1am this morning. It was definitely a memorable birthday, though maybe not as traditional as I am prone to prefer. I loved being able to spend it with my family though, and I am grateful for the safety and blessing so abundantly poured out upon me. I am at the top of the hill and the view is great!
