Abraham Turns Ten!

Abraham has been so excited for his birthday for weeks, and he had a plan for the day. It started with presents first thing. We gave him a Lego kinetics book, a soldering iron, and a kit to build a handheld gamepad. Grandma J gave him a magnetic dart board and a piano synthesizer kit for him to solder. His Kress grandparents gave him a frisbee, a water bottle, and a pocket knife. Sarah sent him $5, Hyrum bought him a pocket knife to replace the one he lost camping earlier this summer, and Mercy got him a box of candy. Matthew also got him a new Lego Marvel Heroes game and by 7:45 am he and Hyrum were playing it.

Next up was breakfast sandwiches (with bacon, like Grandma Naomi makes them), followed by a full morning of video games.

At noon, Abraham and his siblings packed up sandwiches and snacks and headed to the park for a kids only picnic lunch. Lunch was followed by a couple hours of soldering with Dad, and more video games.

For dinner he requested fried chicken, biscuits, and green beans. He gave me a rough idea of what kind of cake he wanted, and I created for him a vanilla cake with strawberry mousse and cream cheese frosting.

After dinner he wanted to watch Harry Potter. I told him that was fine, but that I couldn't guarantee that anyone else would stick around to watch it with him. He is rather obsessed with listening to Harry Potter on Alexa, and always requests Harry Potter for movie night, so I wasn't at all surprised by his choice. The rest of us are not nearly as interested in revisiting the story as often as he is, so his birthday movie was more of a solo activity. Afterwards though we all came back together again for a bit more video game playing.

Abraham is prone to build up expectations in his head that are nearly impossible to meet and is subsequently always a little underwhelmed by reality. I think he had a good day though, and enjoyed himself well enough. He's a good boy who sets a high bar for himself. He's exceptionally silly, can be very energetic, and always enjoys a good wrestle followed by a nice cuddle. It's hard to believe that a whole decade has passed since that night my smiley little Abraham came into the world.
