Dad got home late Thursday night and we were all grateful to have him back. He made a special effort to spend yesterday paying particular attention to the kids. He played lots of Pokemon with the boys, wrestled and played a board game with Mercy, and got everyone ice cream and soda. We watched the new season of Meat Eater, which was only 5 twenty minute episodes and a little disappointing, and went on a long walk. Everyone made their best effort to soak up as much time with Dad as they could.
Today we all went squirrel hunting in the Manzano Mountains with Jeb and the girls. There were hardly any squirrels to be seen, and we didn't manage to shoot the couple we did spot, so as far as hunting goes, it was a bust. We took a nice long lunch break in a lovely little clearing, though, and the kids had a grand time playing in the woods together. Abraham finally got to build a treehouse, which has been on his bucket list for a couple summers now, and he was in little boy heaven. Matthew was able to share all the details of his second week hunting with Jeb, and I simply enjoyed being surrounded by trees and fresh mountain air.
We came home to eat leftovers and watch some movies. We started with a generic Disney Channel Original that we knew Mercy would like, then we introduced them to the Addams Family. They got to pull out their sleeping bags and camp on the living room floor, which was fun and exciting, and on the whole it was a satisfactory party weekend.
