Canasta and the River

I had a seminary training this morning. We took a walk with Mabel to pick some more cactus fruit, then we headed up to Rio Rancho to spend the rest of the day at Cassie's house. She fed us pulled pork tacos for lunch, and we brought the cutout cookies and frosting so everyone could decorate their own dessert. The kids built with wooden blocks and watched Beto play a Pokemon video game while the ladies started a game of canasta. Canasta is a Redd sisters favorite and they play for hours upon hours upon hours whenever they get together.

In the late afternoon we headed down to the river. The Rio Grande is as low as it can legally get right now. Even four year old Matthew was tall enough to walk all the way across it without getting his head or shoulders wet. Despite it being nearly dusk when we got there and the air turning chilly with the sun setting, the kids played happily in the water until the light was nearly gone. We had to use flashlights as we walked through the Bosque to get back to our cars and the whole evening turned into a fun little adventure.

The best part of all was that Matthew came home from his hunt! They didn't get an elk, so he'll be going out again next week, but at least we get to enjoy him for the Sabbath.
