Summer Week 10

On Sunday we enjoyed having Grandma Naomi and Grandpa Kip with us for our home Sacrament Meeting. In the evening, the Barrios joined us for dinner.

The combination of Covid and monsoon season meant we only left the house to walk Mabel. Grandma and I set an ambitious goal to seriously stock my Etsy shop with masks and spent the majority of each day working on cutting, ironing, and sewing. At the end of the week we had made 71 masks, including 35 for a new children's listing, and had them posted to the shop.

Grandpa spent most of Monday leveling dirt and shoveling paver base. The rest of the week, he and the boys spent hours and hours playing video games and watching The Mandalorian. They also played lots of board games, built forts and had a Nerf war, made bath bombs, and hung out in the hammocks. One afternoon they got in swimsuits and Grandpa sprayed them with the hose as they jumped on the trampoline. They boys couldn't have dreamt up a better week!

Mercy flitted back and forth between whatever the brothers were doing and the sewing room, feeling not especially excited by either. She started two different sewing projects, but wasn't sufficiently motivated to finish either. She brought her dolls in and played on my bed several times, and generally enjoyed chatting while Grandma and I worked. She did enjoy reading books with Grandma, and got in several good cuddles.

We had a couple movie nights and on Tuesday Grandma slept outside on the trampoline with the kids. She brought a variety of glow sticks and the kids stayed up late having light saber wars and playing a glow in the dark ring toss game. We took Mabel on walks or over to the grassy park near our house every day. Grandma especially enjoyed the puppy and even made her her very own doggy hammock. It gave us all joy watching them together.

Matthew had a stressful week at work and had to go into the lab 2.5 of the last four days, so we unfortunately didn't see as much of him as we would have liked. Otherwise, it was a low key, low stress, low expectation week for the majority of us. We ate some good food, but also had leftovers twice. We got a lot done, but also did very little. It was definitely a slice of everyday life void of fanfare and adventure. All things considered, it was perfect.
