Week in Review

Last Saturday Matthew and I accompanied Heather to the Temple for her to do baptisms for the first time. It was really lovely.

Matthew left Sunday morning for California and I managed church and choir practice on my own. Weeks with Matthew gone feel both overwhelmingly busy and especially laid back. I spent quite a lot of time catching up on the blog and generally recovering from such a busy November. I did loads of laundry and cleaning, but hardly any cooking. We still had lots of leftovers and when given the choice, the kids would always rather have cereal or sandwiches for dinner than anything I consider real food. I took several long walks, spent a day grocery shopping to restock our fridge and pantry, registered the kids for Spring swimming lessons, and spent a lovely morning with one of the older ladies in my book club. She let me come over and help her put up her Christmas decorations, then we went to lunch. On Thursday I went to the dentist to get my permanent crown. My tooth still hurt too much to chew on, so the dentist was worried I might need a root canal after all. We settled on placing the permanent crown with temporary cement to see if that gives the tooth enough support, then we'll reassess when the kids and I go in for our annual cleaning at the beginning of January.

Matthew returned home to us safe and sound around bedtime last night. I let the kids stay up later than usual so they could love on their Dad, who they've been missing. Overall, they were fantastic while he was away. They drive me crazy for sure, but when I look at them objectively, I have to confess they really are exceptionally well behaved and good.

The boys had karate this morning then we spent the afternoon making cutout cookies.

Matthew spent nearly all day putting the big truck back together. He was so close, but not quite done when 6 o'clock rolled around and it was time to head off for the ward Christmas party, so the kids and I went on without him. He was able to clean up and join us for the last half hour. He helped me get the kids to bed, then he went to D&D.
