Week in review

The kids didn't have school on Monday in honor of President's Day. In the morning Hyrum and Mercy went over to the Jolley's so that I could run some errands. Abraham didn't want me to be lonely, so he came with me and was delightful company. We went to Sprouts and Walmart. Hyrum stayed at the Jolley's the rest of the day, and Mercy and Abraham came home and played remarkably well together while I cleaned and prepared for our evening party plans. At dinner time the Jensen's, Jolley's, Sterling Brown's, and a new family in the ward - the McNeill's - came over for a potluck meal. We had 27 people total and while it was a bit chaotic, I think everyone had a good time.

On Tuesday we woke up to our first snow of the season. It was not as exciting as the kids had hoped and was all melted by mid morning, but considering how dry this winter has been, we'll take any precipitation we can get. Mercy went to Olivia's house in the morning before school. I baked and cleaned.  Matthew had EQ meetings, then book club in the evening.

On Wednesday morning Becky hosted what we hope will be the first of many Ladies Who Lunch - a potluck lunch for anyone who wishes to come. There was a good turn out and delicious food, so we're really pleased. I took Hyrum to cub scouts that evening.

I watched Riker for a bit right after school on Thursday, then Mercy went with the Jolley's to Explora and Dion's to celebrate Scott's birthday. That evening was my epic book club meeting.

I dropped Mercy off at Becky's on Friday morning then recovered from my busy week by attending the Temple. It was heavenly.

Mercy and I took the boys to karate this morning, then went to Walmart to get Hyrum a pot for a cabbage plant he brought home from school. In the afternoon all three went to Rhett's birthday party. While we were kid free, Matthew and I went on a long walk. We intended to follow the fence along the petroglyphs, but as we were walking up 98th towards the stadium we witnessed a pretty crazy car crash. A jeep was speeding out of the hills, skidding and kicking up a lot of dust, then as soon as it hit the paved road it rolled two and a quarter times and slid to a stop. We called 911 immediately as we ran up the road to make sure everyone was okay. Three guys smelling strongly of alcohol were able to get out of the vehicle. They told us they were fine and didn't need any help, but we'd already made the call and we weren't too much past them before two ambulances, several police cars, and a fire truck showed up. After our brief encounter with them we felt fairly certain that they didn't want the police involved, but one of the guys ended up getting loaded up on a stretcher and put in the ambulance, so we think we're glad we called for help.
