While the boys were at karate this morning, I walked around the Lignell's neighborhood listening to my audio book. When they were done, we picked up Matthew and Mercy and went to the church for an awesome ward activity. There are a few hundred records in our ward of people that no one knows anything about. The bishop and membership clerk went through those records and compiled lists of about 4 or 5 addresses each that need to be verified. At the activity this morning, each family (or companionship) picked up one or two of these lists and went out to see if the person we think lives there actually lives there. If they don't, then we are one step closer to being able to send their records back to church headquarters where they can be searched for by other means. If they do, then we had cards with the church's address, meeting time, and contact info for the Bishop and missionaries that we could give them. Matthew and I had great success and were able to visit nine houses. At six of them the member was indeed living there, but they were not interested in having further contact with the church. Two of them had moved, and at only one house did we get no answer. Everyone then met back at the church to report their findings and have lunch. They calculated that 83 houses had been visited, which is about a third of all the addresses that need to be verified. I'd say that's pretty good results for an hour's work on a Saturday morning.
After the activity, we went home and moved bricks. Since we have about six more tons of gravel, we thought we might as well pull up the make shift patio and prepare the foundation properly for more permanent ground cover. Lorelle Monson and her three kids came over for a while. It's amazing how many friends we have that really love manual labor. Once we had removed all the bricks, Matthew filled holes and prepared to tamp down the area while Lorelle and Hyrum played several rounds of rather intense tether ball.
In the evening we were invited over to the Stirling Brown's where they were having a little celebration for Cora's birthday. We decided to take two vehicles so that Matthew could stay later if he wanted. He left the house about two minutes before me and the kids and ended up getting run into by another car. We saw him on the side of the road along Unser as we passed and pulled over as well. Luckily for us, the other car hit Matthew's truck in the same corner that he's been hit twice before. The left tail light is busted and now the door to the bed is even harder to open, but we couldn't really see any other damage. The other guy was really nice, but unfortunately his car was not so lucky. He ran his pristine fancy car all along the back corner of Matthew's truck and the whole passenger side was smashed in. No one was hurt though, so for that we are very grateful. The kids and I went on to the party and Matthew waited around to file a police report and deal with the exchange of insurance.
