Halloween started with pumpkin and ghost shaped pancakes. We had planned on having a friend over, but that didn't work out, so the boys and I just hung out together. I actually spent most of the day recording grocery receipts and putting together November's meal plan. We did watch a halloweenie show during quiet time, so I guess that's sort of festive. Matthew came home early and after dinner we got everyone dressed up then headed off to our ward trunk or treat. Matthew was a knight, wearing the chain mail he made in high school, I was a pirate, Hyrum was Iron Man, and Abraham was a frog.
Hyrum was much more into the whole dressing up and getting candy thing than he was last year. It probably helped that he was excited about his costume and understood the concept of trick-or-treating. He had a party at his pre-school yesterday that got him in the spirit of things, and I think he had a reasonably good time collecting more sweets. It was pretty chilly, and this year it was just a one ward event, so it didn't take long to visit each car. We gave away far more candy than we collected (many of the neighborhood kids came through the parking lot as well). We finished the rounds, ran out of Airheads, and were on our way home in about half an hour.
We went by the two houses with lights on in our circle, then called it a night. The loot was piled on the table, everyone ate their fill (we got an unusual amount of chocolate this year, so poor Abraham kind of got shafted), and the boys made it to bed around the usual time. Matthew and I then turned off all the lights and watched Van Helsing, because what's Halloween with out a vampire movie? Perhaps it wasn't the most exciting holiday ever, but the boys seemed pleased and I got some peanut butter cups out of the deal, so I say it was a win-win.
