I had so much that I wanted to do to create a magical holiday season for my family. Unfortunately we were plagued by sickness after sickness and the climax of my Christmas cold happened over the holiday weekend itself. While a sinus headache and mad bouts of coughing may have put a slight damper on my personal enjoyment of the festivities, we ended up having a lovely, quiet Christmas at home. For our "fancy" holiday meal I prepared Cornish game hens with a wild rice stuffing, mashed potatoes, and bread pudding for dessert. It didn't turn out well. My oven was not heating properly and things just weren't cooking right. It was edible, but not good.
Hyrum has been making the transition to not napping during the day, and was therefore sleepy and ready for bed at the same time as Abraham. We put both boys down at 7 and had a fun time watching Eureka while assembling their presents and stuffing the stockings.
Hyrum is old enough to understand that Christmas involves presents, but apparently the concept wasn't enough to interrupt his slumber. Just like last year, he slept until nearly 10am. Abraham slept in as well, and let his poor tired mom sleep until 8:00! When Hyrum finally started making noises in his room, we went in and read the story of Christ's birth in Luke 2 then brought everyone down to open presents. Hyrum got a play kitchen, 100 pieces of toy food, and a toy mixer. Abraham got train table, foam blocks, and a toy xylophone. Both boys got soccer balls, sleds, and a stuffed animal. They both seem pleased with their new play things. Matthew and I got things like socks, gloves, a warm hat, and new toothbrushes. I got mukluks and an expansion pack for Carcassonne, and Matthew got a watch and lots of treats. We feel very blessed.
We went to Sacrament meeting at 1pm, both boys took a nap after church, and we spent most of the afternoon talking to family on the phone. Matthew and I discussed some of our goals for the new year, ate some left over pudding, and went to bed at 10:00. It was a very nice Christmas and I'm grateful to have spent it with my family whom I love.
