Baby Appointment #5

About a week and a half ago we had a bit of a scare. I woke up sore, and thought perhaps I had just slept wrong. I went to work and the pain got progressively worse over the course of the morning. By about 10:30 I thought I was going to die. I had really intense pain in my upper abdomen that sort of radiated around to my back. I didn't get the sense there was anything wrong with the baby, but knew there was definitely something wrong with me. So I called my supervisor to send someone over to cover the front desk, and then called Matthew (who happened to be working from home that morning) to come pick me up. The nurse I spoke with said we should go right to the labor/delivery ER, so we did, and ended up spending the rest of the afternoon there. They hooked me up to a machine to monitor the baby's heart, then poked and prodded and drew blood. Just as a side note, I have never had the rubber band thingy they use so tight before, and I've had my blood drawn more than most throughout my life. I didn't get a bruise from the needle, but rather from the elastic thing! Anyway, at one point they were concerned about my gall bladder, so I had an ultrasound of all my upper organs. After a 5 hour stay and consultations with a number of different doctors, they decided neither I nor the baby was in any serious danger. They didn't know what exactly was causing the pain, which by this point had subsided to a tolerable level, so they sent me home. They said it was likely due to the growth of the baby and my body not adjusting well.

I went to my OB yesterday for my routine baby appointment and she had a bit more to say about the whole situation. She said my Lipase levels were high, and considering the type of pain and other symptoms, she imagines I had/have a mild case of pancreatis. She's not worried, but says if the pain comes back at that intensity I need to go directly to the ER again. I don't know why the doctors there didn't give me this conclusion, but there we go anyway. Otherwise, she says everything looks great. Baby is measuring exactly as he should, my weight gain they say is right on track, and everything feels/sounds just fine. I go back in 4 weeks.

I'm so glad you're okay! Pain during pregnancy is so scary. You did the right thing, though, in going into the ER. I'll keep you in my prayers.

That's a reliefe that it is not anything serious, at this point. But I hate doctors! I've heard several people going to the ER and not being diagnosed w/anything and w/a several hundred $ bill later and "hope you feel better soon" encouragement, you're usually going back into a specialist later who know what they are talking about. I hope you don't have to go back though.
