Catching up

We had a lesson in Relief Society today about living our lives in order and wisdom. Principles such as not running faster than you have strength and prioritizing were discussed. Those are such easy things to talk about on Sunday, but I find they are a bit harder to actually put into practice when Monday morning rolls around. I've spent enough time bemoaning my ability to stay caught up with life though, so I'll sum up my thoughts on the lesson with a quote that hung in Elder Maxwell's office: My life cannot implement in action the demands of all the people to whom my heart responds (Anne Morrow Lindbergh). There are so many things I wish I could do; so many people I'd like to better serve. My hands long to do so much for those my heart loves so dearly. But right now my husband and my baby are the very most important. They are my greatest responsibility and highest priority belongs to them. I cannot get down on myself for not baking cookies for that sister in the ward when my own family has yet to be fed. I cannot neglect the great commandment to love my neighbor, but I must remember that all things are to be done in wisdom and order.

That being said, I believe the most reasonable way of catching up on the last two weeks is by way of a few photos. My laptop is dead, but I've finally uploaded the contents of my camera to Matthew's computer and will now take advantage of his Sunday afternoon nap to document a few bits of our life.

Matthew's mom grew up in President Monson's stake. A couple Saturday's ago was the 50th year anniversary of their ward building and back in the day President Monson had been the one in charge of getting members there to help build it. He came for the re-cornerstone-ing of the building. It was pretty neat to see him in that setting, plus, there was free breakfast.

My sweet Matthew sent me this amazing beautiful bouquet and a bag of chocolates... just because. It was an average Thursday, no anniversary or special occasion. He's just the best. I love my dear husband so much!

We spend the 4th of July with Matthew's parents. We had a yummy meal, watched a movie, played croquet and horseshoes, Matthew and his brother tried to get the go cart to run for more than 45 seconds, and of course there were fire works. We set of a number of (legal) fire crackers in the street in front of the house, but there were some neighbors who spent $3,000 and put on quite a good show. It was a lovely way to spend the holiday.

That's a huge chunk of money to spend on fireworks! Sounds like you had fun! What a sweetie to surprise you those beauties!

You should read the talk by a GA in the last Ensign (or two times ago or maybe three) about balancing our lives..it gives a great parallel w/what you described...he used an analogy about the airplane oxygen masks...really insightful!
