Looking for a reason?

Matthew and I read Alma 5 last night for our family scripture study and I've been pondering verses 32 - 35. Alma is exhorting us to repent and come unto Christ, and he gives several reasons to do so. If you're looking for some inspiration, for a reason to change, think a minute on the words of Alma:

First he says "repent, repent, for the Lord God hath spoken it!" So if nothing else, we should repent because God said so.

If you have authority issues or you need a bit more motivation, "repent, and I (Christ) will receive you." That seems like a great reason to me, but if that's still not enough, "come unto(Christ) and ye shall partake of the fruit of the tree of life; yea, ye shall eat and drink of the bread and the waters of life freely". We are promised to be accepted by Christ and recieve all the blessings of this life and the next if we are willing to change our hearts.

Finally, if fear is your greatest motivater, "come unto (Christ) and bring forth works of righteousness, and ye shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire". So if you're not interested in being destroyed in the last days, repenting is your best bet.

I had an inspiring weekend and was filled with the desire to be better. I know I am capable of more and I know the Lord expects it of me. That's my motivation. Perhaps sometime I'll post my thoughts on repentance and how it's so much more than sinning and saying you're sorry. For now though, I'll leave you to consider your own motivation for change.
