Matthew turned 32 today. I had grand plans of making him waffles with fresh berries and cream for breakfast, then having quesadilla tacos and Boston creme pie for dinner, but he wants to get down to 170 lbs by his first race in May so we started counting calories last week and my original meal plan was far beyond either of our daily allotments. Instead we had protein shakes for breakfast and Dad opened his presents. Hyrum made him a little picture book, and his parents got him a hat with a light and some crow bars. His present from me (which he picked out and ordered himself) was a Garmin smart watch. He's been wearing it since it arrived a week ago, since that's how we roll, and so far likes it pretty well.
I went to ward council before church, then came home to pick up the boys. Mercy has a cough and very runny nose, so Matthew stayed home with her to spare the rest of the kids in nursery. He was an absolute dear and cleaned up the kitchen for me, including the stove which was covered in boiled over potato water from last night. We had chicken and vegetables over rice for dinner, then spent some time on Skype with his parents and Sarah. It was a pretty low key birthday, but it was nice to spend some quiet time together and I hope he felt our love and appreciation for him. He is such a good husband and works hard to take care of his family. His children adore him, probably because he always has their best interest in mind. I admire how dedicated he is to his goals and how hard he works to accomplish them. He is silly, and thoughtful, and really wants to return to his Heavenly Father. I think everyone who knows him is better for it. Happy Birthday Matthew.
