A little tender mercy

I ride a U of U shuttle to the hospital every morning. I'm usually the last one on the bus by the time we come around to Primary Children's. The older gentleman who typically drives my morning bus has come to know me and smiles at me in his rear view mirror to confirm my up-coming stop. He always wishes me a good day, which lifts my spirits and helps me start the day with a more positive attitude. Today I am working at the Williams building, as my supervisor is having us do some cross-training. I was walking to work and the shuttle I would normally have been on drove past. My driver friend recognized me and waved! Maybe it's silly, but I appreciate the unspoken friendship I have developed with this kind man and his simple gesture this morning was indeed a tender mercy as I was not looking forward to my day answering phones. I'm still not thrilled to be here, but I'm smiling and am in a remarkably good mood. Thanks bus driver friend!
